Manifestation Determination
Manifestation Determination is a review meeting to determine if the cause of a students behavior is due to their disability after a student has reached a point in their disciplinary process that they have been out of school for ten days. During this meeting parents, teachers, LEA, and IEP coordinators meet to discuss the expulsion of a student that may exceed 10 days during that year. This meeting examines whether or not the student's IEP or 504 plan has been carried through, whether the behavior is a manifestation of the students disability, and any parent/guardian or teacher observations.

- If the behavior is a manifestation of the students disability or the failure of the teacher or school to implement the IEP or 504 plan than the school must complete a Functional Behavior Plan is completed and the student returns to the original educational setting.
- If the behavior is not a manifestation of the students disability the disciplinary action that was going to be carried out may continue. It is also advisable to reevaluate any behavior plans so that these behaviors do not continue.
